yCSI was awarded a $300,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development under the Rural Housing and Economic Development (RHED) program for the Rural Supportive Housing Initiative of Alabama (RSHIA). RSHIA will promote innovative approaches to developing and rehabilitating housing in four rural counties in Alabama located in the Lower Mississippi Delta Region.

CSI, in partnership with West Tennessee Legal Services, Inc., the Alabama Department of Mental Health and Mental Retardation, Volunteers of America Southeast, and United Cerebral Palsy, will form a rural Peer Network through which community mental health centers will receive capacity building technical assistance and training on affordable housing development. Through the project 10 new units of permanent supportive housing will be developed and 12 units of substandard housing will be rehabilitated for special needs populations at risk of homelessness.
