    Collaborative Solutions, Inc. (CSI) is a nonprofit organization that specializes in community and organizational development strategies to improve the lives of low-income persons with special needs. Located in Birmingham, Alabama, CSI offers technical assistance, organizational capacity development, leadership development, community organization, local and statewide advocacy for special needs populations, and research and evaluation services to communities and organizations. CSI focuses on a variety of special needs issues, including HIV/AIDS, homelessness, mental illness, substance abuse, domestic violence, employment, and housing. 

    Currently, CSI manages several grants funded through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). In partnership with AIDS Housing of Washington, Seattle, WA, CSI is the lead technical assistance provider in the Southeast for the Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS (HOPWA) National Technical Assistance program. Additionally, CSI has been designated as one of the McKinney Homeless technical assistance providers in Kentucky, South Carolina and Alabama.

    Through a partnership with West Tennessee Legal Services (WTLS), Jackson, TN, CSI launched the Mississippi Delta Supportive Housing Initiative (MDSHI) funded through the Rural Housing and Economic Development (RHED) program, HUD. The goal of MDSHI is to provide organizational capacity development to increase the availability of supportive housing for special needs populations. In 2004, CSI was awarded a new RHED grant to continue the MDSHI over the next three years.
